The reserve is one of the best places in the area to observe the lava fields that were created in Arenal’s explosive 1968 eruption. With two trails going through the rain forest and lava fields, visitors can scramble over and amongst leftover lava rocks and boulders and walk through the forest to get impressive views of the simmering Arenal volcano and the lake.

Mistico Hanging Bridges
There are 16 hanging bridges that span the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park covering a total of 1.6 miles (2.6 kilometers) A perfect opportunity to see birds, monkeys, sloths and other wildlife as you walk suspended above gorges high above the jungle floor.
Appaloosa Stables
Located just 5 minutes away in the village of El Castillo, Lilander and his horses are one of the most popular attractions in the area. Enjoy a lovely 3 hours ride to a private hidden waterfall and marvel at breathtakingly beautiful views of the Lake Arenal area.
Tabacon Hot Springs.
$$$, excellent meal and hot spring in the river at the base of the Volcano. Day pass includes lunch or dinner.
Baldi Hot Springs.
$$, This is a great choice for younger guests and those who are young at heart. Lots of Pools, Beautiful grounds and excellent meals. Day pass includes Lunch or Dinner, also offers general admission.
Los Lagos Hot Springs
$$, This has been our Favorite for many years. A day pass with Lunch or dinner is available as well as General admission. A great place for young families and guests who don’t want to do a lot of walking. Beautiful gardens, excellent meals.
The Springs
$$$ (Two Day Pass) These are mineral springs, natural pools with therapeutic benefits. They only offer a two day which includes one meal. Beautiful property and Gardens.
Tabaconcito
Free. This spring is basically about having a relaxing soak in middle of the river that feeds Tabacon. There are no facilities here and parking is a bit difficult, but it is very popular with younger tourists. At night, they often bring wine and candles to enjoy the evening.
